Kinser Takes Las Vegas Preliminary

Postby acegear » Wed Apr 20, 2005 3:27 am

Kraig Kinser was able to hold on for the win in Thursday nights J.D. Byrider World of Outlaws preliminary at The Dirt Track of Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The 25 lap, $5,000.00 race was also a test to see who could secure the 4 automatic qualifying spots for Friday's main event.

Sammy Swindell had dominated the whole session by winning all the qualifying heats outright to get the pole for the A-Main. Swindell was able to lead the first 13 laps by a full straight-away before mechanical problems would knock him out of the race. After a red flag on lap 5, Kraig had decided to play it conservative and hold onto 2nd place. However, with Swindell's misfortune, Kraig was in perfect position to take the lead.

Dodging the rocks and dust kicked up on the fast 1/2 mile dirt track, Shane Stewart was able to lock in the 2nd position. Following the top rookie Stewart, Donny Shatz took 3rd with Jac Haudenschild securing 4th. Each of these drivers automatically qualify for Friday nights dash and won't have to run qualifying or heats.
