Cactus Classic Falls to Dollansky

Postby acegear » Tue Mar 29, 2005 8:47 pm

Craig Dollansky continued his winning ways in the Friday night session of the World of Outlaws Cactus Classic by taking the win from Danny Lasoski in the second to last lap. Just a light rain began to fall, Dollansky was pressing Lasoski in the final laps of the 25 lap feature at Manzanita Speedway. Barrelling into turn 4 with 2 to go, Dollansky closed fast on the rear of Lasoski. When Lasoski encountered traffic, Dollanski moved to the inside to make the pass for 1st place.

Lasoski and Dollansky had started the race side-by-side in the front row. Lasoski was able to gain control of 1st and was pulling away from the field when the 1st caution, and eventually the red flag came out on lap #3 for Danny Smith who had hit the turn 2 wall hard, damaging the front of his car. After cleaning up the track the field restarted but it wasn't to last as young Kevin Swindell went into the wall, bunching up the field and causing Jan Haudenschild to lose control also into the cartwheeling end over end until finally coming to rest. Not seriously injured, Haudenschild's night was done.

Lasoski was able to maintain his lead in the single file restart while Tim Kaeding had worked his way forward from his 17th starting position and passing Kavin Swindell for 9th just as the caution came out again. This time Brian Paulus had spun in turn 4 taking Tim Shaffer out in the process.

Once again the green dropped, with Dollansky taking the lead on lap 14 by going high, however, Lasoski shot right back to the lead in turns 1 and 2 by keeping to the low groove. Finally, when coming up on lapped cars, Dollansky made his move to the bottom of the track, taking the win by just 0.45 seconds.

The rest of the Cactus Classic was postponed until Ocotber 11, 2005 due to heavy rains Saturday and Sunday. WoO heads to Las Vegas next.
