Starting for the very first time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Kasey Kahne gets the win in the Darlington 200. With only one NASCAR win at the Busch race last season at Homestead, Kasey has been fighting for a win this year in the Nextel Cup Series.
Rained out on Friday night, the trucks had to run on Saturday night after the Busch Series race. Running 200 miles in the Busch race then jumping into the truck for another 200, would seem make for a full day but it obviously didn't bother Kasey.
Qualifying in fourth place with the #2 Team ASE/Carquest Dodge, Kasey held off everyone in a caution riddled race. Late in the race, Kasey was leading by as much as three seconds, when a spin-out with only 10 laps to go brought out the yellow flag, bringing the field back together. With 5th place qualifier Bobby Hamilton, Jr large in his rear-view mirror, Kasey dodged yet another bullet when the caution came out again with only 4 laps to go and setting up the new green-white-checkered finish insituted by NASCAR this season. However on the restart, Hamilton, Jr miss shifted causing his dad, Bobby Hamilton, to get in the back of his son's truck really hard and yet another caution was brought out, allowing Kasey to finish under the yellow flag.
The 1st place finish was just the highlight of Kasey's weekend at Darlington in which he also finished 11th in the Busch Series race, and held on for 5th in the final Southern 500.
