Mark Martin continued his march to the Craftsman Truck Series by holding on to take the checkered flag in the GM Flex Fuel 250. The NASCAR Nextel Cup veteran does not have have history of much success at Daytona International Speedway, with only 3 previous wins in 110 races. However, Martin was in control of this race, leading 42 of the 102 laps run and was leading late in the race until a caution came out shuffling the whole field. Restarting in 9th, Martin was able to power his way through the field back to the front with 13 laps to go. Another late caution with 3 laps to go pushed the race into overtime with a pending green-white-checkered finish. As the green flag flew, Ron Hornaday Jr spun out taking several other trucks with him. This brought out the final caution of the night, leaving Martin to finish under yellow-checkered flag.
Mark Martin wasn't the only story of the night as several drivers were starting the season in new rides, most notably the defending Craftsman Truck Series champion Ted Musgrave. When ULTRA Motorsports folded right before the season was to start Musgrave was left without a ride for 2006. But soon after he was able to pick up a ride with Toyota for the season and made a good impression his first time out by finishing 3rd.
