With the 1st practice for the Nextel Cup Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway cancelled because of weather, the 2nd practice session was the first chance for many of the drivers to get their Nextel Cup cars on the track to see how they would respond. Rookie Denny Hamlin led the field in this practice session with a 15.491 at 123.865 mph. He was closely followed by multiple Bristol winner Kurt Busch and Mark Martin who has also had success at the short track.
