Even thought the SCCA closed the door on the Pro Spec Racer series in 2003, Spec Racer races are still being run nationwide. Developed in 1985, the Spec Racer was designed to be a economical open cockpit, closed wheel racer with few allowable adjustments so that the skill of the driver was the determining winning factor. Powered by 1.9-liter Ford engines that produce over 105 hp, pushing the cars to over 135 mph.
