With the expansion of the series to 8 events in 2006, the United States Rally Championship was decided to allow the best 5 out 8 results to count towards the overall results. To facilitate the change events on each coast are paired to allow a competitor who has a less than favorable showing in one event to rebound for the 2nd event.

In addition to these changes, the USRC has addopted a new team transportation plan which will allow the competitors to have their vehicles picked up regionally and delivered to the opposite coast events at a considerable savings to what they would spend on an individual tow
