Scott Sharp began his racing career in 1976 at the age of 8, winning 50 of the 75 kart races he entered. Moving to the SCCA, Scott continued his winning ways by winning his first race in 1984, and capturing the national championship in 1986, 1987, and 1988. Scott moved again, but not far, this time to the SCCA Trans-Am series. He had a break out year in 1991 when he secured his first pro championship by setting seven track records on his way to eight poles and six wins. 1992 saw Scott come in a close second, but he captured his second Trans-Am championship in 1993.

Building on this success, Scott moved to the IRL series in 1994. While that year saw him only finish 21st in points, he persisted and tied for the IRL championship in 1996. Since that time, Scott has won at least one race per season through this year.

While Scott has a distinguished career in the IRL, he has also has successes in other types of racing. For example, in 1996 he partnered with Wayne Taylor and Jim Pace to win the IMSA 24 Hours of Daytona.
