With the demise of the #48 team, and by virtue of his 3rd place finish in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Matt Kenseth moved up 2 places into the overall lead in the Nextel Cup standings after the 5th race of the season. Kasey Kahne's 10th place finish helped him maintain his 2nd place standing by only 8 points behind Kenseth. Jimmie Johnson dropped to 3rd, 19 points out of the lead.
