NASCAR and their fuel supplier Sunoco has developed an unleaded fuel for use being with the 2008 season. NASCAR has attempted to develop an unleaded fuel in the past with unsatisfactory results. The problem in the past has been the inability of the NASCAR engines to handle the unleaded fuel. But with the assistance of the EPA, NASCAR has come up with a fuel that they believe will work. Sunoco 260 GTX is the blend already in use in the Grand American road racing series, so it isn't clear why NASCAR is waiting 2 mores years before introducing the fuel for use in all their sanctioned series.
