A group in Boardman, OR http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&cat=&address=&city=boardman&state=or&zipcode= is proposing a racing facility that would include a 3/4 mile NASCAR type track, NHRA drag strip, dirt circle track, and go-kart track on 1,100 acres near a local airport. Many of the arguements for the facility are quite pursuasive, as the annual rainfall totals are low compared with the proposed site in Bremerton, WA, the site has a noise variance in place due to testing of passenger jet engines, it is near the junction of 2 major interstates, and it is within 300 miles of both Seattle and Portland.
I have always wondered why a NASCAR track has not been proposed on the east side of the Cascades due to the favorable weather conditions. But I am concerned about the size of the track that has been proposed. With more land than the Bremerton, WA site I would think that a 1.5 mile track would be more in line with what NASCAR would consider for a Nextel Cup or Busch series event than a 3/4 mile track. So if I would change one think it would be this. However I think this location has so much more going for it than the Bremerton location that I am willing to throw my support behind it at this time.
Take a look at it here: http://www.boardmanspeedway.com/index.htm
