New Surface for Talladega

Postby acegear » Thu Dec 15, 2005 10:40 pm

Not paved since 1979, Talladega Superspeedway will get a new coat of asphalt in time for the 2006 UAW-Ford 500 which is the 4th race in the Nextel Series Chase for Cup. In addition to the 2.66 mile tri-oval, pit road and the track apron will also be repaved. This will be the 4th paving of the track which was opened in 1969, followed by repaving in 1970, and 1979.

Contractors will actually construct an asphalt plant on site which will prepare different batches of asphalt to be tested around the speedway until the right combination is identified. Then the actual paving will commence immediatly following the Aaron's Dream Weekend on April 28-30, 2006.
