More 2007 Changes

Postby acegear » Wed Jan 04, 2006 10:58 pm

Further details have emerged that will result from the demise of the regional Elite series (see http://www.racechase.com/ftopic777.html) after the 2006 season.

Starting in 2007 for the 2 Grand National divisions, the Busch East Series and the AutoZone West Series, all competitors will use spec engines similar to the move made by the ASA in 2000. This should lower the operating costs for all the teams as the high-dollar engine tuners will be out of jobs with everyone using the same equipment to the same specs. This move will also allow NASCAR to legislate the specs with the same electronic diagnostic tools used by the manufacturers on their passenger cars.

The other big change will be on the car bodies. Starting in 2007 all bodies will be composite (read fiberglass) which are easier to repair and should allow NASCAR to make sure that bodies are more in line with the current rules. I would suppose that this change will make it easier for teams to switch from one body style to another as the manufacturers change them.
