2002 Nextel Cup rookie of the year, Jamie McMurray has signed a long term deal with Roush Racing to take over the #6 Ford currently driven by Mark Martin, starting with the 2007 season. McMurray is currently under contract will Chip Ganassi Racing through the 2006 season. No indication has been given by Roush who will be the interim driver for the #6 after Mark Martin retires from the Nextel Cup Series after this season but one of the names offered was Ricky Craven who currently races for Roush in the Craftsman Truck Series.
McMurrays only victory came in 2002 at Lowe's Motoer Speedway while he was substituting for injured driver Sterling Marlin. McMurray is currently in the Race for the Chase at 7th overall 285 points out of 1st.
