Kevin Harvick completed the the second NASCAR double of the year by winning the rain-postponed Busch Series Sharpie Professional 250 at the Bristol Motor Speedway today. This double follows on the heels of the one completed by rookie Carl Edwards at Atlanta earlier this season.
Many simularities existed between todays race and yesterdays Nextel Cup event. Harvick started from the rear of the field because of owners points, and yellow was the color of the day as 105 of the 250 laps were run under a track-record 14 cautions. The only difference was the green-white-checkered finish brought out by a second to last lap red flag.
This final caution and subsiquent red flag was a result of Dale Jarrett slowing for an accident ahead and Shane Hmiel running headlong into the rear of Jarrett. Jarrett exited his car and walked half the front stretch to Hmiel's car to confront the driver. TV replays showed Jarrett pointing his finger at Hmiel's face and Hmiel directing an obscene gesture toward Jarrett.
The caution extended the race by 6 laps for the green-white-checkered finish. Harvick was able to hold off RCR teammate Jeff Burton for the win. This is Harvick's first Busch Series win this season. Series rookie Reed Sorenson took 3rd, Followed by Matt Kenseth and Sterling Marlin to round out the top 5.
