Former Craftsman Truck Series star and pole sitter Carl Edwards made a late breaking charge to take the checkered flag in his first Busch Series win. Edwards competed in the Craftsman Truck Series for most of the 2004 season, when he got the opportunity to race for Roush Racing in the Busch Series late in the season. Leaving the trucks behind this season, Edwards is competing in both the Busch Series and Nextel Cup racing.
After winning the pole earlier in the day during qualifying, Edwards ran towards the front of the field most of the race. After a 4-tire change with 12 laps to go, Edwards made his move, rocketing from 4th to 1st in a matter of laps leaving behind many Nextel Cup regulars.
After taking the lead, Edwards held off a late charging Tony Stewart who became tangled in lapped traffic leaving him to accept 2nd place. Jimmy Johnson, Matt Kensent, and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top five in a race where 9 of the top-10 finishers were Nextel Cup regulars.
