4-time IROC champion Mark Martin started his pursuit of a fifth series title with a win in the Daytona IROC race. The 40-lap race included 11 other drivers from World of Outlaws to IRL.
2004 Champ car champion Sebastien Bourdais led the field in the pole position to start the race. NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth worked his way from a 10th place starting position, to take over the lead on lap 6 followed closely by IRL driver Helio Castroneves. Kenseth would hold the lead for the next 31 laps. Then with four to go, Mark Martin, in third, made his move to the inside of Castroneves. As a result of the dirvers protecting thier positions a five-car wreck ensued ending the night for Castroneves, World of Outlaws Steve Kinser, IRL's Scott Pruett, NASCAR's Kurt Busch, and pole-sitter Bourdais.
On the restart Martin was able to get past defending IROC champion Kenseth for the lead, while 2004 Busch series winner Martin Truex, Jr used the battle between Kenseth and World of Outlaws driver Danny Lasoski to move into 2nd. Martin held on to take the checkered flag in his 12th IROC victory, passing Dale Earnhardt and Al Unser Jr as the winningest IROC driver in IROC history.
