Tommy Johnson Jr overpowered Phil Burkart to win the Funny Car bracket of the Carquest Winternationals in Pomona, California. Johnson ended a three year winless streak with a run of 4.741 seconds, and 327.59 mph which is his 6th career win. Burkart spun the tires and limped across the finish at 7.069 seconds and 123.34 mph.
The win was especially special as it was the 40th anniversary of team owners' Don "the Snake" Prudhomme's own win in the Winternationals. Prudhomme now has a combined 99 wins as both a driver and owner.
