The World of Outlaws opened the 2005 racing schedule with racing "down under" at the Parramatta City Raceway in Australia on January 15, 2005.
With a light drizzle coming down before and during the A-Main event, Donny Schatz was able to take the lead early on and hold on through traffic, cautions and even a red flag to take the win in the 40 lap event. Danny Lasoski finished 2nd, followed by Aussie native Kerry Madsen, Daryn Pittman, and Fred Rahmer to round out the top 5.
Madsen and Lasoski started the event in front, racing side by side into turn 1. Madsen was able to hold off Lasoski to take the lead. Lasoski was able to pass Madsen on the next lap just as caution was called for Jason Sides and Mark Wells who spun in turn 4. Starting in third position, Schatz slid past Madsen on the outside of turns 1 & 2, and set his eyes on Lasoski. Schatz was able to take over the front position on lap 5 and never looked back.
With Schatz pulling away from the field, the fight for positions began in earnest behind him. Tim Shaffer was able to get past Steve Kinser for 4th place, but Kinser was able to fight back and retake the place on lap 19. Trevor Green brought out the red flag on lap 21 by flipping his car in turn 2. However, he was actually able to return to the race after some repairs.
As the race resumed, Kinser and Madsen fought over 3rd place, allowing Schatz to build on his lead. Kinser began to fade though allowing Pittman to pass him and Rahmer to eventually end up in 4th overall.
