The 2005 Dodge Charger was unveiled on the morning of January 11, 2005 in anticipation of NASCAR's Preseason Thunder Testing at the Daytona International Speedway. Synonymous with power and domination, the Charger name is well known for overwhelming performances by the great Richard "The King" Petty in his #43 STP Charger.
NASCAR approved the new car in August of 2004, and most of the on-track testing has been done by Bill Elliot. There will be four factory teams running the Charger this season; Evernham Motorsports, Petty Enterprises, Chip Ganassi Racing, and Penske Racing. Testing has gone well on the new car, however NASCAR has moved to slow the car down by reducing the rear spoiler, and reducing the hole in the restricter plate when used. 10 drivers, including 2004 Rookie of the Year Kasey Kahne, will debut the new Charger in the Daytona 500 on February 20, 2005.
