Levi competed in 27 USAC National Sprint Car races in 2003 and had his best season yet, with 15 “top-10” finishes, eight of them in the “top-five”. Still seeking that elusive first feature win, he was second at Gas City, Ind. in May and in the “Larry Rice Classic” Valvoline “Indiana Sprint Week” race at Bloomington, Ind. in July. In addition he was third three times and in the series finale at Charlotte, N.C. he led the first 12 laps before mechanical problems forced him to the sidelines. Taking sixth in the 2002 National Sprint Car standings, Levi posted a dozen “top10” finishes in 24 starts, capped by fourth-place finishes at Haubstadt, Inc. and North Vernon, Ind. The latter race was part of “Indiana Sprint Week.” USAC’s “Most Improved” Sprint Car Driver for 2001, Levi finished 10th in the final Sprint Car standings, posting 11 “top-10” finishes in 21 starts. He had fourth-place finishes at Haubstadt and Terre Haute, Ind. and was fastest qualifier three times. After three exploratory Sprint car outings in 1998 and 1999, Levi tackled the series in 2000 with 18 feature starts. His best performances were a sixth-place finish at Putnamville, Ind. and a Fast Qualifier Award at Haubstadt, Ind., both during Indiana Sprint Week. In total, Levi scored five top-10 finishes, but came up short in his bid for Rookie of the Year as a member of one of the best rookie classes in recent years. Racing is not the only sport where Levi excels. He also played high school basketball for one of the top teams in Illinois.

This is an interesting name. I worked for a guy named Levi Jones in a machine shop in western Washington. He is far older than this guy, but he moved to Indianapolis and started building race car parts, or so I heard. He had a son named Benny, who supposedly got into the race game. I wonder if this is Benny, racing under his Dad's name?

He might be related, but the bio from USAC lists Levi as being a native of Olney, IL with a birthdate of 6/10/82. Not sure if that would be the same time frame you are thinking of. _________________ A win is a win, and second place is never good enough |
