David Pearson started racing his 1940 Ford in 1952 at the age of 18 years old. Eventually David bought a late model Chevy and headed to Daytona where he came in 18th in 1960. He then moved on to the World 600 where he came in 10th. 1961 was the breakout year for David where he won the World 600, Firecracker 250, and the Dixie 400, earning the NASCAR Rookie of the Year Award.
In 1964, David won eight races, earning the pole 12 times. In 1966, now driving a Dodge, David won 10 of his 15 Grand National victories on dirt tracks, winning the first of his three NASCAR championships. David switched to Ford in 1968 and drove to 16 victories in addition to 36 finishes in the top five.
In 1969, David became the first man to break the 190 mph barrier at Daytona, qualifying at 190.029 mph. He then went on to win the 125-mile qualifying race. At Rockingham later that same year, David scored a victory in the Carolina 500 leading to victories on each on the South's existing superspeedways. The "Silver Fox", as he became known, set an unprecedented superspeedway qualifying record by winning 11 straight pole positions at Charlotte Motor Speedway from 1973-78. He also won the 1976 Daytona 500.
Out of the 572 NASCAR races entered by David Pearson, he won 105, earned 113 poles, and led 25,425 laps.
