In a similar story to that of Joe Nemachek in that Scott Riggs’ racing career started on 2 wheels instead of 4. Eventually Scott moved to NASCAR’s Mini Stock Division at the age of 17, making quite an impression by winning a dozen times in just three seasons. Scott then moved to Late Model cars, being named track champion twice at the Southern National Speedway in Kenly, NC before moving on yet again to the Craftsman Truck Series in 2000. Scott finished fifth in points in the Craftsman Truck Series for 2001 with five victories, 14 top-five finishes, 16 top-10 finishes and five pole awards in 24 events.
Scott progressed into the NASCAR Busch Series for 2002 where he earned Rookie of the Year honors after winning two events and scoring 13 top-10 finishes en route to a 10th place finish in the series point standings. For 2003, Scott led the Busch Series points several times before finishing settling for sixth place with wins at Nashville Superspeedway and Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill.
“I’ve been blessed to have had some great rides in my racing career and some great people helping me along the way,” Riggs said. “I explored several excellent NASCAR Nextel Cup opportunities as well as offers to remain in the Busch Series and I decided the Valvoline Pontiac was the best place for me to be at this stage of my career."
